To contribute towards sustainability and cleaner production, we experimentally investigated the basic physicomechanical properties of a new porous mortar containing Japanese cedar woodchips and evaluated its durability by one-year immersion tests in ion-exchanged water and sodium chloride solution. The lightweight woodchip-containing porous mortar has high water and gas absorptivity, in addition to high skid resistance and high durability against calcium leaching. Calcium-leaching-induced strength reduction was not significant because it was compensated by strength increases from additional cement hydration in water during immersion tests.
